I've never used password protect for a web site but I seem to just about have it set up. However, I can't get the system to find the .htpasswd file. The site is in C:\wamp64\www\Psalmonds\jprootfolder. That is the directory the virtual host points at. I have .htpasswd and .htaccess in the jprootfolder Where should I put the .htpasswd file? If I try to put it in the jprootfolder and

Otto, As someone who has been writing software, user documentation, and technical documentation since 1973 (as well as moving on to systems work - operating systems, telecommunications, etc) I often have the same thought as you: >"There are times when I wonder if it's worth spending time creating warning messages. I'm running WAMP Server 3.0.4 (32bit) with MySQL 5.7.11, and Apache 2.4.18, PHP 5.6.19 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. When I try to create a new virtual host I get the following errors: ( ! ) Warning: fopen(C:\\Windows\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts): failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\wamp32\www\add_vhost.php on line 238 Call Stack # Time Memory Function Location 1 0.0010

I was afraid you might say that. I've been looking for a way to send them questions but haven't found any. I found two forums, one is not taking new registrations and the other one's registration procedure is not working properly. I think that what I will do is let PEAR put the packages in \php5.6.15\pear and then I'll use them from there or copy them to the \php5.6.19\pear directory I'v

This is a Window 7 64bit system. I have WAMP 3.0.4 32bit installed I originally installed 32bit from the file wampserver3_x86_apache2.4.17_mysql5.7.9_php5.6.15.exe I was having virtual host problems with that version so I un-installed it and installed from wampserver3.0.4_x86_apache2.4.18_mysql5.7.11_php5.6.19-7.0.4.exe Once I had that working, I downloaded the go-pear.phar file (PEAR

As Otomatic said, this forum is about using the WAMP - Windows Apache, MySQL, and PHP installer but I have a question: What do mean, exactly, by "...bunch of other pages that I CANNOT CREATE."? Emphasis on "cannot create" Do you not know how to create a web page from "scratch" or what ?? More details needed.

You miss the point: As installed with the x86 package, the httpd-vhosts.conf file does not contain a defintion for localhost. If I enabled the VirtualHost sub-menu and uncommented the include for httpd-vhosts.conf in httpd.conf file and then try to use the Add Virtual Host fuunctin, via the Localhost page, form the WAMP menu, I get a 403 error - I can't load the Localhost page. I updated

Otomatic - Okay - I'll stick with one or the other. But, in the post you told me it was okay to have both installed provided I don't run them at the same time. LivingThis - Not sure want you mean by "WAMP Zend" - I got Pear working on a WAMP 32 bit installation (I've not tried it on a 64bit version.) I just followed the installation instructions at via I installed a Pear pac

Haven't tried it but if you were to install the PHP script on a hosting company server, the extension would not be available, and thus the function would not be available, and somehow I think they probably would not be willing to install your extension. Might be fun to play with but for "production" use on the Internet, you'd have to go with whatever extensions the hosting company ha

Yes, error is still present with upgrade to 32 bit 3.04. I'll use virtual hosts, as i said before, once I can create them. I'll go see about making one manually. I'm going to mark this as in the subject line - is that okay? You can close it the topic for replies.

I used the file wampserver3_x86_x64_update3.0.4.exe which I downloaded today, 2016-06-20 1734 CDT (GMT-6) I scanned it for malware, none was found, and then I ran it and selected the \wamp32 directory where I had installed WAMP 3.0 32 bit The About after the upgrade is: WampServer Version 3.0.4 32bit Created by Romain Bourdon Maintainer / Upgrade to 2.5 by Herve Leclerc Upgrade 2.5 to

Otomatic - no need to apologize, for reply delays your use of English, or anything. No one should expect instant replies. As to the English - as I've told people, your English beats my French completely. I can say Hi but I can't spell it in French. If I could be of any help tidying up documentation, web pages, etc in English, let me know. I'd be more than happy to take a look at thing

I will update 32 bit to latest version. Please see my reply on the post I made at regarding the original problem I ran into, when I was working on error that I ran into the project link problem. I'll stop trying to use project file links completely as I have done on the 64 bit version. I came across this error when I was working on the error I posted about at Thanks

The error I'm getting is well before I even get the chance to create a virtual host on the 32 bit version. I turn on the virtualhost sub-menu I uncomment the line #Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf in httpd.conf, restart the services and try to pull up the Localhost page - I get a 403, Forbidden error. As I said in my question about project file links , I'll update to the la

I have WAMP 3 64 bit running correctly. It is installed in \wamp64 I downloaded and installed the 32 bit version in \wamp32 I forgot that I needed to enable the WAMP Virtualhost sub-menu before going to the Localhost page and clicking the Add Virtual Host link. The Add Virtual Host page told me to enable the sub-menu. I do so. Then I went to the Localhost page it showed the following:

One last thing - if you are having problems with one file (in the case an MP4 file) try another file of the same time before looking for the cause of the problem being something other than a bad file. It saves a lot of time - your's and everyone else's. Do you that WAMP is a preconfigured packate of Apache web server, MySQL databaae, and PHP language support? The W stands for Windows, th

The answer to your orginal question is DON'T Don't even consider making changes to make your web site, on your local computer, available to people out on the Internet. Getting Apache and MySQL to run on your local computer does not mean that they are configured for maximum security for use by others. If you want to put a site online, register a domain and purchase a hosting plan from som

I do not understand your question, please reword it. And - you ask about css and then you talk about a JavaScript file - node.js Who are the "some" that "have used with"? Who are you talking about? Where did you see that? What are you actually asking?

** I edited this to make the subject more meaningful and to try and show some HTML - there's a note about that below: I have WAMP 3 64 bit installed in \wamp64 and I just installed WAMP 3 32bit in \wamp32. I am not trying to run them at the same time. The 64 bit version still functions properly. I'm going to refer to the 32 bit installation as WAMP32 and the 64 bit installation as WAMP6

As to the "enabled the vhosts sub-menu" Sorry, I left that out of my instructions for creating a virutal host. As to: " uncommented the vhosts include in httpd.conf" Why did you make a change to that file? I've never had to make a change there to create a usable virtual host. You said "then added two vhosts, one for localhost and one for the project I added&qu

Is the one described on this page: it is the one. I found it by going to my WP Admin Dashboard (Admin Window_, clicking Plugins and then Add New and then I put Duplicator in the the Search Plugins box at the top right hand side of the Dashboard window and pressed Enter. I also don't fully understand your questions except that it has something to do with backing up databases. In general - When to backup - - before you make structural changes to a DB or a DB Table. - depending upon the volume of changes to data in the DB, you should backup up at regular intervals (days, weeks, etc. - maybe hours for a very busy database) - there really is no wron

Thanks. I will run one version, shut it down and start the other. I won't even try having them running at the same time so I won't need to make any port or other changes. Seems the simplest way to do it. As far as MySQL - I'll make duplicates of my databases and I'l use export and import to sync them, as needed. Thanks again.

My suggestion is going to sound radical: If you still can't get things to work - I suggest reinstalling WAMP and starting with a clean slate. Read all of this, better, print it if you can, before you begin. Terminology - I have the 64 bit version of WAMP 3 installed and it installed in the c:\wamp64 directory. Apparently the 32 versions, new or old, installed in the c:\wamp directory,.

Reread my long reply to you - print it out if it will make it easier to read. You didn't answer my questions about what is now happening after you "followed the guide" and can't get to the site locally - Detail please. If you are entering localhost/test you are not using a virtual host to access the site. Reread my long post and create a virtual host using the link on the WAMP

I typed up along reply to you a couple of days ago and trashed it. I was trying to explain, without being rude, that you don't know as much about the aspects of computing involved here, and of which you speak as though you are knowledgeable, to resolve this problems. You talk of hacking and such - I don't think you have an grasp on the actual area of computer security. You can continue t

A tip - Otomatic, and others responsible for WAMP are French, English is not their first spoken language. Perhaps you noticed that there is a French version of the support forum?? Sometimes their use of English is not perfect - you need to think a bit on some of them. If I tried to use the Spanish I am supposed to have learned in high school, I'd get as far as saying "Hello, how are yo

You are welcome. It's great to hear you got it running. NOW - go get the Wordpress Duplicator plug-in, install it, and down the Package files to somewhere on the local HDD - Duplicator shows you two buttons when a Package is created. Clicking one button downloads the Duplicator installer.php file which you "run" to restore the Package. Clicking the other button downloads an
