Hi,

I am sure that this is a problem that has been over come in the past but I am struggling to get anything working.

I am using windows 7 and I have downloaded and installed WampServer 2.1d and turned off my Panda firewall and used the localhost setting during installation.

Hovering the mouse over Wamp in the task bar and it shows offline and when I double click on Wamp on the desktop and click yes on allowing the program access, the program doesn't start..

I have no idea how to get it started and any help wish this would really be beneficial as I am doing a php and mysql course.

Many thanks

Offline is not a problem. When wamp reports 'offline' apache will reject any access from anything other the an ip of 127.0.0.1 ( thats localhost ). Its a security measure, so people cannot get into your system.

When you run the WAMP icon from the desktop, it starts wampmanager, thats the icon you see in the system tray.

Question: What color is the wamp manager icon in the system tray?

RED = Mysql and apache not started
ORANGE = Only one has started
GREEN = Apache and mysql has started

If its red have you tried
left click wampmanager -> Start All Services

This should start both APache and MySQL

Hi RiggsFolly,

Thanks for your reply.

wamp manager is orange on the system tray and I can't seem to get MYSQL started I have clicked start all services but mysql won't start I have also gone into mysql.>services>start service but that doesn't work either.

When I click mysql console and command promt opens and asks for a password and I press enter it bleeps and then dissapears, I have set a password yet so something is also wrong there.

When I double click on the desktop short cut for wamp server it doesn't open.

Many thanks

The icon is gone from the system tray. When I click on the desktop shortcut it give a message:

"Exception Exception in module wampmanager.exe at 000F15A0.
Could not execute run action:
Directory name is invalid."

Please make sure you have the latest version of both of these Microsoft C++ Redistributable runtime libraries.

The 2008 Redist is used by wampmanager
The 2010 Redist is used by Apache

FOR WAMP 32bit
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) [www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) [www.microsoft.com]

FOR WAMP 64bit
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64) [www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) [www.microsoft.com]

I had both. In fact I had several C++ 2008 versions as well as a couple of C++ 2005. I removed all but the last C++2008 and rebooted but there was no change. I am going to remove Wampserver and reinstall it. Thanks

Gets me every damn time. I had the same issue.

Do you have Skype running? If so, go into Skype's advance settings and tell it not to use Port 80.
Restart Skype
Restart WAMP
Dance happy

No, I don't have Skype. I reinstalled Wampserver and it worked fine. I turned my computer off for the night and today the icon is gone from the system tray. When I used the desktop icon Wampserver came up. Perhaps all is well!

Yes all is OK. Thats what you are supposed to do. When you want WAMP to run Apache and MySQL you run the WampServer icon on the desktop to start them.

When you are not using WAMP you dont run WampServer and it is not clogging up your system unnecessarily.

Thanks. Yesterday it would not run from the desktop icon. I had to remove the duplicate versions of C++ 2008 and 2010 and then reinstall Wampserver.
