WampServer

Hi,
I am unable to connect to [localhost] on my computer with IE or Firefox browser...
I have installed WAMP and everything looks good. There is a yellow/orange icon in my notifications tray. When I mouse over it I get the message "server online.
I'm running WAMPSERVER2.1 on Windows XP.

I browsed these forums and checked many things:
--I ran netstat -aon| findstr :80 and found nothing.
--I redownloaded and reinstalled the program. I restarted my computer.
--I checked that IIS is not running on my computer.
--I checked the \Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file, and it is as it should be

I am at a loss for what to do next?

One strange thing about my system, I have no C drive, my local drive is E. So wamp resides on E:\Program Files\wamp.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Selah,
I encountered the exact same problem tonight. Whether trying to access localhost or phpmyadmin the server could not be found.

The solution is to go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and edit the hosts file, changing the following line:

::1 localhost

to...

127.0.0.1 localhost

Afterwards, no restart of WAMP is necessary, as refreshing the browser reflects the change.

Unfortunately I did check that file, and it already has the line
127.0.0.1 localhost
Still no success trying to load localserver

The orange icon in notifications tray means that wamp is not ready, try to turn off skype and restart wamp and it should work
Happened to me also.

Unfortunately I don't have Skype on my computer.
Also, I ran netstat -aon| findstr :80 to check if anything is using port 80. Nothing came up.

This is good to know that the orange icon means something is wrong. Its yellow-orange, it says "server online" when I mouse over it which seemed promising, but still not luck.

There is a list of things I have tried in my first post, BTW

Is there nothing in the error logs, particularly in the Apache Error Log?

Ahh, thank you, this is a new suggestion...

But no luck, when I tried to open this file from my WAMP menu it said there was not a file under that name.

Same thing with the Apache error log and the PHP error log.

Any other files you recommend checking?

If the logs are not found, that implies to me that the services have not been started. If your WAMP is online, left-click on the WAMP icon and click Start All Services. Wait a few seconds and then again left-click on the WAMP icon in your system tray and go to Apache -> Apache error log. If the services have started successfully there should be a log entry indicating activity (and errors if there are any errors).

The icon in notifications tray should be green when wamp is ready for use. For me it was skype that was blocking it.
Try to close all processes that you don't need for the PC to run and see if that helps.

The icon is never green.

The icon should be white if all is ok.

i just solve the localhost problem with www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman

Replace the ip adress 0.0.0.0 with your 127. .... via this program and it works for me

@KrazyCeltic "Apache error log" and "Apache access log" are both empty/don't exist.
I tried Start All Services. I didn't get any error messages. My icon remains orange, it says "server Online" when I mouse over. However when I check my Apache logs they still do not exist.

@Steve, that would be great if you'd be willing to take a closer look. I'm not familiar with teamviewer so you'll have to tell me what to do.

I'm using wamp just recently and i have just read that the icon should be white as you say stevenmartin99
But for me it is not, when i start it up it goes from red trough orange to green and everything is working for me without any issues.

I already checked my E:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file and it did indeed have the entry
127.0.0.1 localhost

Does the program you suggested, HostsMan, fix any problems aside from that one?

I'm a little hesitant to get another program involved... but maybe I will give it a try.

I did the same thing, but I did it with a text editor. Still no luck
