phpmyadmin cannot load mysqli extension

Having a slight problem with wampserver. I just installed the package and if click on phpmyadmin from index.php i get an error "Cannot load mysqli extension. Please check your PHP configuration.". So I did that, and the extension is enabled.I looked for similar previous posts and didn't find them, any help appreciated. Probably something simple I am overlooking.

My old install of PHP was somehow causing the error. Fixed.
