Hello,
I've seen similar issues but not exactly the same as what I am experiencing.

I have several local sites setup with working aliases. These are basically all Drupal sites.
I have no problem installing drupal, developing locally and porting the site to the live server.

I'd like to make edits back on my local machine however.
I port the site back to the local installation, make sure the database settings are correct for the local install, and install the sql file from the live site.

When I go to my previously working alias, it does not resolve. I either get a "connection timed out" message or it finds a site from the internet with my same alias name and shows me that.

The other local sites running on wamp still work jsut fine.
I've tried various combinations of setting the bas URL in the drupal settings, and setting the Rewrite base line in the htaccess file, but nothing has worked.

What is strange is that yesterday I got it to work by creating a new alias and database. Today the new alias worked until I logged in as admin and tried to enable a module. It failed after I checked the module box and hit "save".
