ok i have installed wamp2.0 , seems to work ok, i started apache module ssl_module and php module php_openssl.

the port 443 is open is there anything else i should be doing to get https working?

i saw the post by the Australian bloke but thats a different version to this one.

the wamp2 package is out of the box , so to speak and says it supports ssl but how hard is it to get going?

HELP! have i missed something thats very simple? do i need a certificate?

Hi,

OpenSSL has not changed, I presume. Yes, you need to generate the certificates. You may be able to adapt the steps from the earlier post to suit the folder structure of WAMP2.

hi , thanks for your reply, i'm in melb.

ok i have been to numerous sites and none of the self signed certificates are relevant.

the closest i got was [www.akadia.com] but i cant get past step 2.
req -nodes -new -keyout private.key -out server.csr

its says it cant load the config info out of the file opennssl.conf located /usr/local/ssl/openssl.cnf.. error in req

it seems to be looking in the wrong spot and it doesnt exist.

any ideas? or a better web site to look at ?

Quote

/usr/local/ssl/openssl.cnf.
That location is used for Linux and for this wamp, it should be C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.6\conf

I'm still working on the guides and I didn't have a chance to post the guide for ssl yet, but toivo has already posted in this forums a step by step to do it, so you should search this forums for that post

Hi Rusty,

You can set up a system variable OPENSSL_CONF from Control Panel – System – Advanced – Environment Variables :

Variable name: OPENSSL_CONF
Variable value: - put here the location

I am afraid my instructions only apply to Windows XP and wamp5. I had a look at Windows Server 2003 today, did not find openssl.exe and was not particularly keen to try to install it on a production server. Hopefully someone else has tried OpenSSL on W2K3.
