Make sure nothing else is using port 80 which is the port apache uses. if port 80 is being used by another program, apache will not start.
Make sure you do not have Skype running, it uses port 80
If you have IIS, it is a web server and uses port 80, so stop or disable it.
Also make sure your firewall is not blocking apache and the use of port 80.
