Thanks for your assistance, I uninstalled wamp5 and cleared out the files in the directory and it all seems to work now.

So can either of you tell me how to get both passwords to be the same. I have tried using the MySQL Console but it disappears immediately when I either press return (when there is not a password in config.inc.php) or edit the password field in config.inc.php and enter that. I have 1.6.6 installed and phpinfo reports the correct php.ini file is in use.
