WAMP2.1 upgrade fails

Seems like a simple thing to do:

1. Uninstall WAMP 2.1 with windows uninstall tool
2. Download WAMP 2.2e
3. Install in old wamp directory
> got some err msg saying something couldn't do something because of 'MSVCR100.dll'. looking into that.
4. WAMP fails to start. Icon turns orange, never green.

so...

5. Looked in apache error & access logs. They didn't exist & asked me if I wanted to create them. Said yes.
6. Same with php error log. No help from the logs..
7. Tried to run 'php -v' from my git bash. Said php was not found.
8. Tried to look up 'http://localhost'. Failed with 'could not connect' message.
9. Tried to run mysql. Was able to connect to localhost and add new database.

So does anyone know where I go from here? I'm trying to look up that .dll, but other than that I don't have any leads. Gotta say, kind of pisses me off that WAMP tries to start, fails halfway and doesn't give me any indication of how or why... rrr.

You seem to have forgotten step 0.5 and step 1.5

0.5 stop all wamp services
1.5 delete wamp folder.

Then before installing wamp2.2e (which comes in 5 flavors) did you read the sticky about 'MSVCR100.dll', at the top of the forum?

Thanks scarabaeus.

Ok. So it really is necessary to remove the wamp directory? I've got 10 gigs in 17 local directories in the /wamp/www/ directory and it'll take quite some time to move all that stuff around..

I did see this MSVCR100.dll post just after I submitted mine. I did this:

1. Downloaded the Visual C++ file
2. Installed VC++
3. Did *not* uninstall WAMP through windows (seems unclear how/when this is necessary)
4. Re-ran the WAMP 2.2e installation. Worked fine, no error this time.
5. WAMP seems to hang up in the same state (no apache/php, mysql works fine). No help in the logs.

FWIW, I have been stopping wamp services before doing any (un)installations.

There really isn't any kind of feedback on the problem that is preventing apache from running? Am I just not looking in the right places?

Whoops. Well, I uninstalled WAMP, moved my local sites, deleted the old wamp directory, and re-installed it all and WAMP is working fine now.

My take-aways are:

1. You must install visual C++ BEFORE you install WAMP
2. You must install WAMP in a fresh, empty directory

no

you can just remove the apache service, from the menu, install the c++ pack and reinstall the service.

you dont need a new folder at all.
