WampServer

i am a newbie to wamp server. when i run wampserver, i get no error messages but the icon remains orange so it's not running. any suggestions on how to diagnose the problem would be great!!!

check to see which service has not started.

wampmanager -> Apache -> Services ( id start is available its not started )
wampmanager -> Mysql -> Services ( id start is available its not started )

Look at the log file for whichever is not started

Look in the windows event viewer for messages from the service that is not starting.


Its probebly apache and usually because something else has grabbed port 80.

wampmanager-> Service -> Test port 80

What does it tell you?
You will need to re-configure the app using port 80 or uninstall it, depending on what it is and if you actually use it or not

I had similar problem. It was enough change mySQL version from 5.5.24 on 5.1.41 (Windows XP).

Mysql is running but apache is not. Both apache log files are empty. Apache has grabbed port 80 ("your port 80 is actually used by... apache". when I try to manually start apache I get no errors but it doesn't start.
where can I look to find the problem?

If its wamp's Apache that is it should say something like this

Server: Apache/2.2.23 (Win32) PHP/5.3.17

Its a guess but, have you tried other ways of installing apache?? If so, have you got one left installed?

Look at Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

Wamps installs 2 services called wampapache and wampmysql

If you have one called Apache then its not the one controlled by wamp
Remove it.
