Cannot find Localhost

I installed wampserver (latest version) and I put all the services to running and also put the wampserver itself on and the icon is showing orange.

However, when I try to run localhost host either by typing localhost in the browser (Google Chrome) or 127.0.0.1, it says it cannot be found.

Could anyone help?

What I installed:
Comodo Internet Security (added to safe list in firewall)
phpDesigner 8
Virtual Clone Drive

It's a new laptop only bought 3 days ago.

If the Icon is orange than one of the services is not running and its probably Apache.

The usual reason is that some other process has captured port 80 before you get the chance to start WAMP.

Left click wampmanager -> Apache -> Service
If the option "Start resume Service is available (text in black) then wampapache has not started.

Do this
Left click Wampmanager -> Apache -> Service -> Test port 80

This should open a command window and show a message telling you what is using port 80.

Whatever is using port 80 should be uninstalled or reconfigured not to use port 80

The usual things are:
IIS - uninstall it if you are not using it. ( internet search will show you how)
SKYPE - the config can be changed to stop it using port 80.
On Skype Contacts window do Tools -> options -> Advanced -> Connection
Uncheck the box labeled "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives ......"

If this is not the problem get back and Ill make somemore suggestions

There should be no reason to change the port number.

If you change the port number as suggested by Elamathy and Apache now starts it just proves that something else is using port 80.

Find out what that is and then make a decision as what to do about it.

If you change the port number you will have to append that on all your address's

Like [localhost]

ITS A MAJOR PAIN! AND TOTALLY UNNECESSARY !! unless you want to run 2 web servers at the same time, which is never a good idea unless you are a lot closer to being an expert than most of us are.

I'm having the same problem. All the services are running -- everything is green. When I run the test port 80 utility it displays nothing after "Your port 80 is actually used by :" and the cursor is on the next line. I assume that after I ran the apache server service it would have reported that Apache was using the port. But no?

Bob.

Sounds like A firewall issue maybe?

I went to extremes to rule that out. I uninstalled the whole package. No luck. Webroot now lists the apache app as network permitted.

Thanks though, it was a thought.

Can I take a look with Teamviewer?

It's hard to give other advice when it's not even being liste as using the port
