Can I install WAMP twice in the same root folder?
Posted by: Wampar (---.net-89-3-106.rev.numericable.fr)
Date: September 08, 2012 03:55PM

Hi,

I'm using windows and would like to test more than instance of a software. My question is:
Could I install WAMP twice in two different folders in C drive? Will this affect programs installed in either of installed WAMP?

Please advise, thanks.

There is no reason ever to need to copies of wamp,

its techinally possible but not just with the default installer.

can you tell me why you want to run two copies?

also do you want to run them similtaniously?
this is what is not possible with the default installer.

but as i said before, there isnt any reason why you would want two copies of wamp installed..

can you explain further before i go into detail about how to start modifying wamp

Hi,

Actually, I have installed an open access program but I can't update it neither install a new version, so I'd like to install a new WAMP server to make a fresh installation of all the package to see if I can install it.

Of course, I won't run the two copies simultaneously but once a time.

then yes just install wamp in another folder

you must use the wamp menu then to manage the services each time you swap versions

uninstall the services
left click wamp> apache > service > remove service
left click wamp> mysql > service > remove service

reinstall the services
left click wamp> apache > service > install service
left click wamp> mysql > service > install service

Once you install more than one copy , never use the uninstaller found in control panel for wamp.

always just delete the wamp folder if you want to remove it.

Cool. Thanks.
Further think, though. After install two copies, which one will be associated to localhost?
I mean if I type "localhost" in the URL, which wamp instance will be started?

which ever one you last installed the services on, Wamp must be running for localhost to work...

so just open the wampmanager.exe in the which ever folder you want to run.

then wamp menu will open,

Remove the services, and install the services, and then that version of wamp will be the one that uses localhost.

if you want to use the other copy, you must run the wampmanager.exe from the other folder, But that version will use the other versions apache mysql and php until you uninstall and install the services again.

OK, thanks for this clarifications.
A last thing just to make sure and avoid mistakes:
I should install/uninstall wamp services after each time I start WAMP? This include also PHP services or only MySQL adn Apache?
Which uninstalled you mean when you say "Once you install more than one copy, never use the uninstaller found in control panel for wamp" ?
Do you mean Windows control panel?
Should I uninstall service for the current version before install a new copy?

Thank you

Yes I mean the Windows control panel > add remove programs.
do not use this to uninstall WampServer.

You dont need to uninstall the services first. This is because the service name is the same for both copies.

It doesnt matter which version you use to uninstall the service. Whats important is that which ever wamp copy you use to install the service will be part of that version...

if you want to get teamviewer i can show you more clearly , in the registry

Thank you very much, Steven.
I'm not so familiar with the registry digging. So, I just need simple rules to install and use WAMP properly.
If you, however, have advises and precautions, please tell me.

Thank you a lot.

Do you have any idea why?

The software is called ojs, a reluctant program.

What Teamviewer can do? I see it is for Remote Support and Online Meetings. How this could troubleshoot the problem and fix them?

Yes it is completely blank!
Actually, when I hit Install (after I provide database credentials), the page turn to blank and nothing happens! No installation process begins!
Sorry, what do you mean by viewing the source? Source file?

sounds like there is just a standard error, and errors are turned off in the cms, so you cant actually see the errors

i meant the browser on the blank page click > view> source

Ah OK, but it is empty! Page info too! Nothing there!
It is really horrible!
There is no way to check error in a software?
I turned on error display, and error reporting in php but php-error log still empty!
I didn't change any permission rule or other setting. It's defaut problem!

in the cms error reporting is probably off which will overwrite php default.

ask the creator about this
