WampServer

This is my 1st attempt to use WAMP.

THe installation appeared successful.

when I go my Tray and click LocalHost then FireFox displays a blank page

also when I click on the try for wampserver and click online

following message:

Could not execute menu item (internal error)[Exception] Could not perform service actions: THe service has not been started.

I am clueless about what is occuring

Point 1: You dont have to put wamp ONLINE. That function just changes apache to allow access from any IP address and opens your system up to the internet ( if you have port forwarded your routers port 80). If you are just developing leave it offline and apache will only allow access from localhost.
This is the out-of-the-box situation and a scurity measure.

Point 2: When you get that error message ( when attempting to put online ) it is usually because apache has not started.

What colour is your wamp icon in the system tray?
If its ORANGE then apache has not started and some other process it probably already captured port 80.
Many other things can have attached to port 80!
left click on wampmanager -> Apache -> Service -> Test Port 80. This should tell you what is using port 80.
You will have to uninstall whatever that is, or configure it to not use port 80.


If you still have problems post again but add your OS and the version of wamp you have installed.

I then uninstalled and installed

Apache 2.4.2 – Mysql 5.5.24 – PHP 5.4.3 XDebug 2.1.2 XDC 1.5 PhpMyadmin 3.4.10.1 SQLBuddy 1.3.3 webGrind 1.0

OS --> Windows 7 Home Premium
WAMP in the tray is ORANGE
When I do Test Port 80 -->
Your port 80 is actually used by :
Information not available (might be Skype).

I looked at Skype which is using port 1481

I am a applications developer. I am not familar with most of this stuff about ports.
HOw do I change the from port 80 to another port (8080?)

Hi again,
I found an explanation of how to determine what is running on Port 80. It was Skype. I ended the process
and the tried LocalHost in the tray

now get msg --> Unable to connect


Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost.

I see the Forums have many entries on this topic. I will read and hope to resolve my problem

Changing port is easy, BUT NOT RECOMMENDED


If you have SKYPE just configure it not to use port 80 and 443

Skype -> tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Connection
UnTick the checkbox next to "Use port 80 and 443as alternatives for incoming connections"

Kill Skype
restart Skype

Now using wamp, restart all services
Does the wamp manager icon go GREEN?

I stopped the process Skype. I will reconfigure Skype as you suggested.

I did not realize that WAMP was not started. Once I started WAMP it went to green and now I am connecting and seeing the LocalHost display in Firefox when I click LocalHost in the try.

I am following a tutorial from Lynda.com ( I think this is the site) to learn about WAMP, PHP, MYSQL etc.
