Trouble importing db

Hi knowledgeable ones. Please assist your brother.
I'm trying to recover a wordstress database from a backup I had made and it seems to complete fine but then wants to reinstall wordstress.
I'm not sure how to check / compare the details to see where an inconsistency exists.
If anyone has the slightest clue please bring your fingers to the keyboard.
