Hello

I'd like to ask if we can install an older version of PHP in WAMP that is not available through an add-on setup, that WampServer provides.

@Steve

Hi. I am new to WAMP and have just sucessfully installed the 64-bit version (from WampServer2.2a-x64.exe) but I also need to run PHP5.2.17. I was wondering if the 32-bit php file and the 32-bit vc6 apache file from sourceforge will work with the version of Wamp I have installed?

Thanks in Advance,
Doug

im not sure which apache your talking about.

if you talking about the versions i complied.. then yes they will work , but you must use that version of apache with that version of php - you can just swap on the menu

Hi Again Steven,

I have just installed the two files noted above, unoffical php5.2.17 (32-bit version) and apache2.2.22 _vc6 (32-bit version). Wampserver is now reporting an access violation error when I try to 'start all services'. It does not seem to matter which version of php/apache I am trying to start. The Aestan Tray Menu pop-up reports:

"Could not execute menu item (internal error)
[EAccessViolation] Access violation at address 0043AC36 in module 'wampmanager.exe'. Read of address 22203A6D."

The first address is either 0043AC36 or 004F1AE0 while the "read of address" changes with each attempted execution.

As noted in my previous message, I am attempting to run php version 5.2.17 in a 64-bit installation of Wampserver. Is there something that I am missing? Or should I try installing the 32-bit version of Wampserver before the needed versions of php/apache?

Thanks in advance,
Doug

did you install the ms vc10 redis as mentioned at the top of the forum?

i can take a look with teamviewer if you want

Yes, the vc10 redis is installed.

I uninstalled the 64-bit version of Wampserver and replaced it with the 32-bit version. No more error messages. As a test, I attempted to install the 64-bit version in a different drive and without the needed apache/php combination but that seemed to break everything.

I don't have a real need for the 64-bit version so I will just stick to the 32-bit version that seems to be working.

Thanks for your help,
Doug

all wamps use the same service names
so if you install another copy,you must install the services each time.

Steve-

I've been running wampserver for awhile but have found no mention on how to upgrade to a new version of the complete wampserver if i'm running a previous one.

i have 2.0 and would like to update to the latest 2.2 version but not sure if i can overwrite my existing version without screwing everything up? can it overwrite the files in the wamp directory?

i need the latest version of php and apache to satisfy my security folks and i notice those are not available as add-on modules.

any advice would be great.

no you cannot due to a new compiler being used.

you need to make a copy of the www folder and move it outisde of the wamp directory.

you need to export all your databases into sql format.

if you had made any changes to the php.ini , my.ini or httpd.conf keep a copy of those so you can check which modules/extensions had been enabled.

then you can uninstall. and delete the wamp folder.

then install wampserver2.2e (i recommend 32bit even on a 64bit machine)

then replace your www folder and import your sql file.

Addons would have been continued but once you are using 2.2e you can install 2.2f etc directly on top so no need for addons.

if you get stuck or are unsure, i can take a look with TeamViewer

Steve -

Saw your reply on other topic just after i posted this. sorry about that.

One more thing i wanted to ask. if i backup the entire wamp directory (including my www dir) and i then proceed to uninstall wamp server and then install the new version...if things go wacky can i just delete that directory and put my backup files in a clean wamp directory and it will go back to working with old files?

i'm just a little scared and afraid because i've never exported mysql. although it seems straightworward, i just can't lose everything.

thanks!

yes you can. as long as wamp is shutdown when you copy the folder , and the folder goes back to the same location.. you can run it again by just reinstalling the services.

left click wamp> apache> service> install
left click wamp> mysql> service> install

if you want me to export the db, grab teamviewer and ill help you

hi steve-

i am revisiting what i was working on previously with wampserver.
unfortunately this server is housed internally on our network so i have no way to get teamviewer to work.

i followed your suggestions and i shutdown wamp, copied out the wwwroot folder, exported my wordpress db to sql format, and then killed the damp directory.

from there i proceeded to download the latest 32bit beta of samp server so i could have the latest versions of php, apache and mysql to satisfy my security folks.

i got the damp server installed, i copied back my files to the wwroot directory and now i am at the point where i opened up myphpadmin and trying to import my wordpress db. i keep getting an error. the file was about 100mb uncompressed, so i tried compressing it and got it down to about 17mb.

neither seem to work.
i went into the php.ini file and i increased
max_post_limit and upload_max_filesize to 200m

still get an error. tried looking at apache log and i don't see anything useful to me.
it says
INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
was unable to complete your request.....more info may be available in server log.

tried changing all the different options under the import.

utf-8, format SQL and compatibility mode to none ?

any suggestions without being able to see?

thanks

yup, you need to change more than that smiling smiley

you MUST open the php.ini using the wamp menu.

left click wamp> php > php.ini

Find:
post_max_size = 8M
upload_max_filesize = 2M
max_execution_time = 30
max_input_time = 60
memory_limit = 8M

Change to:
post_max_size = 750M
upload_max_filesize = 750M
max_execution_time = 5000
max_input_time = 5000
memory_limit = 1000M

Save and Restart Wamp

steve-

thanks much for your reply.

i tried exactly what you said above.
opened the php.ini from wampserver (thats how i always do it anyhow)
and then proceeded to change all the values you listed.

i saved the file and quit amp server completely.
started it back up, made sure to start all services and then went back to phpmyadmin.

still having the same problem unfortunately.

couple things for my clarification.

if i exported my wordpress db, i should be clicking IMPORT under MORE on the main page, correct?
that is my understanding that this is a db and i don't create a WORDPRESS db first and then try to import it from within that. i've tried both for the sake of things and i get the same error.

when i exported, i don't recall changing any of the default values other than making sure it was SQL format.

so i was unsure if i need to change the character set of utf-8 or the SQL-compatibility mode from none?

when i open the apache log i see this as the most recent line

mod_fcgid: HTTP request length 137230 (so far) exceeds MaxRequestLen (131072), referee: [localhost]...

sorry for all the questions.
just at a loss here now without my data.

thanks!

it depends how you exported it.

did you export the db or the tables..

its an easy mistake to do in phpmyadmin

if you open the SQL file in a text editor you will know becuase there will not be a CREATE DATABASE statement first...
