Sorry man, its nearly 00:50 here, I am up the wooden hill to bed.

If you run my suggested script and it shows you 'Hello World', there is nothing wrong with wamp but there may be an error in your script.

Catch you tomorrow.

I got my wampserver back up and running. I tried your file aaa.php and an example in the book I am learning php from called testing.php which calls the phpinfo function. Both work as expected.

As a note, the book I am using is 'Begining PHP 5.3' by Matt Doyle

The first example is a file called testing.html which has html code (nothing to do with php). This is suppose to verify that Apache is up and running.

The second example is testing.php (mentioned above).

It would appear to me that PHP is running and Apache is not.

Also a problem I ran into is that if MS Word is used as the editor, make sure that it saves as an MS-DOS text file and not as the default (which creates an docx file). Simply renaming the file won't fix it.

I have notepad, it's just that Windows does funky things, forcing you to use what THEY want you to use.
I finally fixed the settings so that any file with an extension of .html or .php would open with notepad and not Word.

Now when I create a new file of these types, they open with notepad and Word doesn't get a chance to scramble them. All php and html files I create now seem to behaving as they should. I have working at the moment....

Hello World in php
testing in php, which uses the phpinfo()
testing in html

I have successfully changed the timezone in Apache, so I guess everything is working. Thanks to all!!

This is manual installation you can have a try.

1.Download the Apache HTTPD Web Server from the Apache website listed in the external links.
2.Download the latest stable PHP Windows Binaries with installer.
3.Download the latest stable Windows (x86) version (way at the bottom of the page), which includes a Windows Installer, of the MySQL Database Server.
4. Download the phpMyAdmin Database Manager file (phpMyAdmin-2.6.2-pl1.zip).
5. Install the Apache Web Server.
6. Install the MySQL Database Server.
7.Install the PHP Engine.
8.Install phpMyAdmin.
