WampServer will not work!

Greetings all smiling smiley

My computer is running Windows XP 32-bit and I made sure to download and install the 32-bit version of WampServer.

As expected I came across some problems. After spending some time in the forums I downloaded and installed the lastest updates AND even changed the Listen 80 to Listen 8080. Still the icon is orange.

When I type in localhost:8080 in my browser I get "the webpage cannot be displayed", which is probably due to the fact that I can't get Apache to run.

I tried shutting off my IIS, but it isn't listed in services under administrator tools

I shutoff my firewall, but the icon is still orange

I am very new to all of this and at the point of giving up

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I'm running this computer behind a router which may or may not be contributing to the problem.

I'm using Windows 7 and 64 bit version of WAMP server. After install I tried to run it and I get the following message:

Could not execute menu item (internal error) [Exception] Could not perform service action.

Any idea what is wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

So it seems that all I had to do to fix this problem was:

1) Go to wamp folder
2) go to bin folder
3) go to apache folder
4) go to Apache2.2.21
5) go to config folder
6) inside config folder there is a file httpd.config
7) change Listen 80 to Listen 8080.
8) save the file and restart wamp server services.
9) Now open browser and type in address bar (http:\\localhost:8080).

Hope this works for you.

Make sure no other program conflict Wamp such as IIS, SQL, Skype, Zonealarm, firewall/antivirus, NOD32, Eset, any web related program including Remote Desktop, Teamviewer ...

IIS and Apache/Wamp are both web server and might conflict in some way, so you have to disable IIS in order for Wamp to work

Disable IIS in Vista/W7:

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Turn Widows Features On or Off, uncheck Internet Information Services

Disable IIS in XP:

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, uncheck Internet Information Services (IIS)

Restart computer, then restart Wamp

Also, in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else

127.0.0.1 localhost

If using Skype, open Skype > Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection then uncheck "use port 80..." restart Wamp then Skype
