Hello, I installed WampServer 2.2a (64bit) yesterday on windows 7 and i cant access [localhost] or [localhost] at all from aestan Tray Menu. It gives me 403 Forbidden message on both.

[127.0.0.1] seems to be working.

Tryed with Firefox 7.0 and Chrome

Any ideas about this ?

Thanks advanced

I have 2 machines, other one is Windows 7 64bit and other vista 32bit, both have the same problem.

What do you mean with "host files"?
How can I check them an maybe change them?

thanks,
alice.

Hi Alice

First make sure the wamp icon is green beside your clock

If it's any other colour - then you have a different issue

- if its green. Try using http ://127.0.0.1 in your browser

If this works then it's your hosts file that is causing localhost not
To work.

Let me know this and I can give you further instructions

Same problem my side

WampServer2.2a - no contact to localhost in offline mode - no contact to phpmyadminat all.

Downgrade to 2.1. solved all problems immediately....both pages accessible in on-and offline mode!

ist a bug..somewhere...

thanks Steve,

It works fine! This will remain a mistery to me but so far you are a great magician. I have now created my database and will keep on installing my things. If you don't mind I will get back to you when I am desperate.

Thanks again,
alice.

- My wamp icon is green beside the clock

-Using http ://127.0.0.1 in the browser everything works

But i donĀ“t understand how cain I mend that.... "If this works then it's your hosts file that is causing localhost not to work".

Could you help me?

Open the hosts file

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Delete EVERYTHING from it

and then add

127.0.01 localohost

and save it. ( if you have problems saving it , move it to your desktop , edit it, save it , and move it back.)

Hello All,

I'm new on wamp as well.
I have the same error (on a XP machine) and tried all above.
The problem is a little bit different here on my side because the the icon is not green, it is yellow but tells me 'WAMP online'
I can't open the phpMyAdmin page. What is wrong here?

Kind regards

I just installed WAMP and the icon is orange. I get the same error message from Aestan Tray Menu, and WAMP SERVER is offline. I also am a beginner. What is the problem? I am using Windows Vista operating system, and Google Chrome browser.

Thanks,
Kate

I have read other posts and solutions to this and I have done the following:
edited the hosts file
changed the skype port
checked that Intenet services are unchecked from Windows options
restarted my computer.

Now, the icon is still orange, but at least I am now online. However, I can not get access to localhost, I get the Error 404 message. I have tried using [127.0.0.1] instead of localhost but get same error message.

I should add that I am using the 64 bit version of WAMP.

Thahnks,
Kate

Hi,

I am a beginner and wants to develop my site using PHP as most of the domain provides support to PHP, Apache and MySQL .

I am using Windows XP and installed WAMP yesterday. It was working fine and written some php script, tested and it was working fine without any problem ....

But to my surprise it stopped working today ....

So I have done all the suggestion provide on the troubleshooting page from the forum but all in vein ...

My icon is shown in Orange color and server online is displayed ...

I have uninstalled Microsoft Firewall too so that it might work but of no use ... reinstalled and installed wampserver but still no use ...

I have checked the hosts file it contains only 127.0.0.1 localhost ....

Please help that what happened within 1 day that it stopped working ...

Thanks in advance ...

Hi,

I managed to resolve the problem of localhost not working.

I would like to share the steps taken to resolve this issue which might benefit other users:

1. First I checked which application is using Port 80 through WAMP->Apache->Service->Test Port 80.

2. Found that Microsoft HTTPAPI/2.1 is using port 80 on my machine

3. Checked the [griffith.wordpress.com] and found that Web Development Agent Service is running on the machine. [ I am using Windows XP and other users too can find a solution with different Windows version.

4. I disabled "Web Development Agent Service" through Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services

[You can check the service running on your port 80 and then act accordingly]

5. Started Apache Server

6. Tested Port 80

To my surprise, Port 80 was using Apache

Lastly, I checked localhost which was giving Bad request (Invalid hostname) is NO MORE ...

All the Best and happy using WAMPSERVER.

Thanks,
Mrudul

[removed prior post about httpd.conf file because it was wrong]

The HOSTS file fixed it for me. It doesn't happen instantly. You have to wait for at least a minute before it starts working. Not sure why.

Again, the solution is to delete everything but "127.0.0.1 localhost" from your HOSTS file.
