WampServer

Hello,

In the past, i have use wamp without issue. It no longer works.

Changes since its working days:
1) large "windows update"
2)quickbooks installed
3)quickbooks tech support dorked in my "Turn Windows features on or off" settings (not sure if he made any real changes)

System: windows 7
WAMP: latest version (2.1)

tried to uninstalled/reinstalled wamp in an effort to fix? yes

i dont have skype.

i'v checked error logs and it first says, "no file exists, would you like to create one?" i say yes and see no errors, no nothin' in the error logs.

When i attempt to start wamp, it goes from red to orange.
When i attempt to view the localhost, i get the browsers dreaded "ooops, cant find the dern webpage"

Am i cornfused? YES.

Any help would be fantastic...ill buy ya a beer. Ill even showmypc.com to help in troubleshooting.

ye Quickbooks uses IIS which he turned on in the features section. Its a Microsoft Server like apache and they both need port 80.

You can change the port apache uses but its not really a good thing as then all urls must use the port number such as http: //localhost:81

to do this,
left click wamp>apache>httpd.conf

find
listen 80

and change to

listen 81


save and restart wamp,

i see. that indeed fixed the problem but, as you said, i must now type in:

localhost:81 for it to work. no longer does the simple [localhost] work.

Maybe it best that i change the listening port of quickbooks? or something of that nature.

I went into the "Turn Windows features on or off" and dorked with the settings a bit.

apache is now listening on port 80 and it works fine.

i dont think you can. but im not 100% sure of that. Best to ask them can quickbook run using apache/mysql

instead of IIS/MSSQL

I got it fixed and didn't want to change the port and this was the solution for me:

I got SQL Server installed, so I checked the port 80 and it was being used by "Microsoft-HTTPAPI 2.0"

So I desactivated “SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER)” from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Services

No need to restart Windows but restart Wamp all services...

Now, WAMP is green again and running on port 80

The best way to fix the problem is to left click on the icon, go to

Apache\services\testport

what ever service comes up in that window you go to the control panel\administrative tools\ services and disable it.

That will work.

I am havin very similar issue.
I cannot make wamp works. I've tried everything. The icon is orange. I've been changing port in httpd.conf. I dont have skype on. My hosts file is ok. The 80 port is not blocked - test: your port 80 is not actually used.
It seems like apache cant be launched, but i don't know why. The icon says that wamp is online, but it is orange. I disabled all the apps that could have blocked 80 port. The last possible solution I pressume it might be a virus or sth. Here is my apache errors log:

when i went to testport it said skype is running on port 80, so i turned of skype restart wampserver and done .

You can configure SKYPE so it will not use port 80 but still work.

Skype -> Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Connection

Then uncheck the checkbox that says 'Use port 80 and 443 as alternates for incomming connections'

That way you can have both apache and skype running together

I had the same problem and try #slimbips solution but the file listed using port 80 wasn't in Services. I found here [hardforum.com]

this suggestion "Make sure you stop the world wide web publishing service in the service manager."
I did it and now it's green.

my wamp is orange and does not turn green, I did test the port and it says only Apache and Php (windows64) is running on it,
I do get a lot of errors from my database on id, I don't know if it has to do with my files or with wamp running wrong as I'm toataly new to this.

i did try my files on an other computer with wamp and they worked fine so I don't really know where the problem come from, I do have skype but not running

check if your windows firewall or another firewall program blocks apache server. After giving permission icon returns green and apache works so do wampserver.

hi i tried to RiggsFolly's suggestion. I also changed Listen 80 to Listen 81. And yes it turned green but when I click Test Port 80 on Apache localhost displayed IIS 7. I tried uninstalling Microsoft Webmatrix and Microsoft .Net Framework but it didn't help. Hope you can make me fix this. thanks!

Ok so that means your system has Microsoft IIS installed, they are doing that on later versions of Windows for some reason. If you are not intending to use it you can uninstall it, it is not an integral part of windows so its being uninstalled wont effect normal operations of windows, and if you need to install it again later, it comes as part of the standard OS so you wont need to do anything perticularly clever.

So go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Click the 'Turn windows features on and off' link in the left hand menu.
Wait for the list to load and then find 'Internet Information Services'

Un check the check boxes for the following items ( you may not see all of them )

1. IIS
2. Web Deploy 2.0
3. MS Sql Server Reporting service.

Windows will then have a think for a while and then remove those applications, you will probably be asked to reboot to complete the uninstalls.
Reboot anyway when the uninstalls are complete.

Then try wamp again.


Alternativeley just disable it.

Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

Find IIS in the list of services.
Left Click that line and select Properties
Change the 'Startup Type' to disabled.

You may need to tdo this to MS Sql Server Reporting as well.

Guys I bet most of you that experience the issue has Skype running. Try turning off Skype then restart the Services. Worked for me.
