PHP Not working

I have everything seemingly operating, but have discovered that PHP is not online. I cannot perform any php functions such as printing out the date or connecting to the database. I have started all services and the server is online. php is installed properly as far as I can tell.

If I reinstall would I lose my database's and my password etc?

Any advice would be appreciated

I fixed it, I was using <? instead of <?php

Now if only I could connect to the database

I tried a ton of stuff, the last thing that worked was the tags. Make sure you close and restart after making changes, that helped for me. Even reboots help Sorry I cant help more
