external drive WAMP install works on one computer, not another

Please offer a suggestion as to what might be causing this problem. I would appreciate your thoughts, as I have spent a lot of time trying to get to the bottom of this.

I have installed WAMP on an external drive. On one computer (without WAMP on c:\), everything works great. On another computer (without Wamp on c:\), I get the icon with the red indicator.

These computer are very similarly configured, and are running Win7 home premium.

What is my best course for solving this problem?

maybe the services are installeds on one and not the other

left click wamp icon> apache>services>install service

and same for mysql

Thanks for your reply.

The services are installed on e:\ (the external drive). On neither of the desktops are the services installed.
But, the e:\wampserver service will work perfectly on one desktop, yet not on the other (red meter icon).

For the c:\ drives, I've even searched the registry for "c:\wamp" and there is nothing. All WAMP references start as e:\wamp\...
