mysqld fails to start on Windows 7

I recently upgraded from Vistax64 to Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I have been having trouble with a reinstallation of WampServer. In my most recent reinstallation I did the following:
* Uninstalled WampServer (using the Windows 7 program uninstall feature)
* Ensured there was no other installation of MySQL - not listed as an installed program.
* Found and removed an old C:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL directory.
* Removed the lingering C:\wamp directory.
* Ensured there were no registry entries containing "mysql".
* Ran the Wampserver2.0i.exe installation file.

Upon completion and when I "Start All Services", I get the following messages in the MySQL Log file:
091120 6:50:41 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 0 0
091120 6:50:41 [ERROR] listen() on TCP/IP failed with error 6
091120 6:50:41 [ERROR] Aborting

091120 6:50:41 InnoDB: Starting shutdown...
091120 6:50:42 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 0 46409
091120 6:50:42 [Warning] Forcing shutdown of 1 plugins
091120 6:50:42 [Note] wampmysqld: Shutdown complete

At this point, I can access the WampServer Homepage. However, not surprisingly, I can not access phpmyadmin - the page comes up blank.

Any recommendations on how to repair (or reinstall and avoid) this problem with access to the MySQL DB will be most appreciated.

The WampServer icon is not all white - appears to be about 1/2 yellow. When I run netstat, I see no active connections for port 3306.

Open taskmanager , view>select columns > tick PID and press ok

There is no entry in the results from netstat -aon for port 3306. When I try to initiate wampmysqld from the services screen (under Control Panel), I get the following message:
Windows could not start the wampmysqld service on Local Computer.
Error 1067. The process terminated unexpectedly.

Seems as though something is preventing the wampmysqld service from starting correctly - so that nothing is listening on port 3306. This is the result whether I try to start the service from the WampServer icon or from the Services (Local) screen under the Control Panel.

Thank-you for you continued assistance. I'm stumped.

Steve:

Am running McAfee Firewall (making sure Windows Firewall is turned off). And, sure enough, mysql.exe was set for Outbound-Only Access and mysqld.exe was blocked. Why? Who knows.

Thank-you for the "firewall" suggestion. Feel free to send this note to your manager - or give me the appropriate contacts and will send a "great job" note.
