I have installed WAMP on a local laptop - phpmyadmin starts up OK and I can add databases and users and all services have sucessfully started up.

My problem:

I have tried to install limesurvey and cannot connect to the database and the install aborts.

I have also filezilla on this laptop but also cannot connect to the localhost:

get message (in filezilla dialogue):

resolving address of local host
Connecting to 127.0.0.1:21...
Connection attempt failed with "ECONNREFUSED" - Connection refused by server".
Error: Could not connect to server.
Waiting to retry

I can ping localhost so it seems it is there but I still have refusal to connect.

Can you help?

WAMP does not come with FTP. Just place your files in C:/wamp/www folder.

As for your script first go to phpmyadmin. In the Create A Database field type in the name of the database you want limesurvey to use, for example just type in limesurvey or limesurvey_db or whatever you want to call your database.

Now go to install limesurvey. When it asks for your database details these are what you'll want to use


Hostname localhost
Database Name The name of the database you created in phpmyadmin
MySQL User root
MySQL Password leave this empty, root has no password

you should setup db account for each different app/script
to setup db, follow this

I had moved the files to the www directory and already set up in phpmyadmin the dbase and dbase user more or less the same as when it was installed on the remote hosting system I manage.

I will delete the already set up db and user and restart from scratch.

yfastud - I go straight into phpmyadmin with my current set up are you suggesting I go through the steps in the blog link for each of the applications I wish to run locally (limeserver and vbulletin)?

I have filezilla installed locally that cannot connect or resolve to localhost which I was using to test connect procedures.

Update on connection problem.

I followed through the instructions on the link: [guides.jlbn.net]

including set-up of the password login front screen.

I created a db login for limesurvey and still had the same failure to connect to the database. I have just downloaded wordpress and created a db login, user password etc. and installed wordpress locally with no problem in about five minutes flat.

So I have a problem with the specific software (limesurvey) not connecting to the server I will have to research further what the problem is.

Red face - spelling error in database name!!!

All up and running with limeserver now to deal with deprecated functions on 5.3.0
