CHMOD - Localhost - File Permission - Doesn't Work

Hello,

I need to CHMOD .htaccess on my localhost otherwise WordPress can write permalinks.

I have Googled this extensively. There is nothing helpful online. I have tried the "solution" of changing permissions on the security tab and this did not solve the problem.

How do I do CHMOD in WAMP or get around this problem?

Thank you

its not a wamp issue. windows doesnt have file permissions.. you dont not need to do anything to allow it..

if your having issues, paste up the error

The WAMP software refuses to write the files. Is there any way to get WAMP to do this, or is it impossible on a Windows localhost?

like i told you.... there is no file permissions...

Wamp doesnt refuse to do anything. if your getting an error paste it up?

if your getting no error but its not writing to the file.. then paste up the code so i can see the mistake.

ooooh, sorry

I didn't realize what paste it up meant.

I set Wordpress to have a different method of writing the addresses for posts and pages.

Without switching the method there's no way to give a page a specific name.

This is also required. Does WAMP have this?

mod_rewrite

mod_rewrite is an extension module of the Apache web server software which allows for "rewriting" of URLs on-the-fly. Rewrite rules use regular expressions to parse the requested URL from the client, and translate it into a different URL before interpretation.

WordPress uses mod_rewrite for its permalink structure, which is optional functionality.

Hell yeah!

That fixed it. Thanks!

Also, are there any resources you'd recommend for understanding Apache and how servers work better?

Hello, I have the same problem and get the same error message

"Not Found
The requested URL /mysite/about was not found on this server."

mod rewrite is already checked and my permalinks still don't work. The .htaccess file is in the same folder as my wp mysite but wamp is on a different drive. Would that cause the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
