I am a dynamic web page/web server newbie so please bear with me.

I am doing a dynamic web page tutorial for Dreamweaver & downloaded WAMP and installed WAMP (on my

laptop) but when I click on the "localhost" to get to the admin page I get "can't find page" from both IE &

firefox.

I downloaded and installed WAMP on my desktop and everything works normally.

On the Laptop NO. when I access the www button in the WAMP control panel it takes me to the correct

folder.

The "localhost" button, I get "can't find page". the same if I I type it in the browser.

running XP pro SP3 on both machines, both are recent installs.

suggestions please, cause I do all my creative on my Laptop.

thanks in advance for the help.

Dale

the little icon on the bottom toolbar is yellow from 0 to 2 oclock & then it is white from there to bottom.
the desktop looks the same.

both are identical except for the laptop has office 2007 & the desktop has office 2000 pro.

Laptop has dreamwaver CS4 & Photoshop CS4. Desktop only has photoshop 6.0. no dreamweaver.

both use AVG antivirus

I run "regcure" on the desktop regularly (fixes bad paths & links etc) this is NOT on laptop.

both have skype.
the laptop install of XP is only a week old, the desktop is 6 weeks old.

any other programs I should add or delete.

thanks
Dale

open skype > tools options> connectoin and untick "use port 80 as alternative"

then try restart wamp again. if its still yellow and white paste up ur apache and mysql log from c:/wamp/logs

You were correct! skype was the culprit. skype was ON on the laptop but not ON on the desktop.

so now they work on both.

Thanks sooo much.

If the wampmanager icon is red in the system tray then both Apache and MySQL services have FAILED to start.

Uninstall any other attempts you may have made to iinstall Apache and/or MySQL.

Hi,

I'm a newbie in web development. I'm facing a similar issue while clicking on Localhost from WAMP browser keep on searching for something but couldn't show anything.

My SQL is running fine and WAMP Server Icon is also green.

I also want to mention that WAMP worked fine when first time I installed it on my system but after updating the PHP.ini file for timezone things stopped working for me.

I've tried the resolution defined above where its mentioned to delete everything from hosts file placed at "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" location. But here also I'm facing issue to update the file as Window 7 giving me the message that check someone else is using this file. Moreover its looks like an access issue while opening the hosts file in Notepad++.

Text under hosts file on my window is givin below. Please let me know the issue exists in it only or there might be some other causes as well?

Install TeamViewer and I will troubleshoot for you.

Install TV, then run it.

Send me a Private Message containing the TV ID and PASSWORD so I can connect (dont post it here).
Leave TV running as it will change the password each time you restart it.

Also do this before attempting a connection.

How to Configure Team Viewer so it does not require port 80 or 443

Run TV
Extras -> Options -> Advanced -> Press the Advanced Button -> Advanced Network Connections

Check the checkbox saying [ Dont use incomming port 80 (recommended for web servers only ) ]

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Installed WampServer 2.4 (64bit & PHP 5.4)
Download Pop-up warned "You must install Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package x86 or x64"
and showed:
"VC10 SP1 vcredist_x64.exe 64 bits" to download and install from Microsoft. (x86 version also showed as alternative).

Checked my Windows updates and found both Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable packages x64 and x86 version 10.0.40219 already installed, but no indication that they were the SP1 version.
So I downloaded the update to local drive D (not C) and installed from there.
Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable package SP1 x64 gave a "possible install error" and I selected "Repair" to it's former state.

WampServer 2.4 tray icon shows Green color and Offline or Online depending toggle I select,
but never finds "localhost" and page is still blank after eventual timeout.

Already checked C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file and 127.0.0.1 localhost is the only non-commented entry line.

Please advise me what to do now.
Thanks.

Update: Got all the newest versions to work fine on an older Windows XP (32bit) machine. So what's it about the Windows 7 Pro 64 ?
