mysqld.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close

i installed WAMP server friday, 1/2/09, on sunday, 1/4/09 when i started up the service i immediately get the error: mysqld.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, i uninstalled the software, delete all the folders, and re-installed, again i get the same error. i have no other server on my machine, no IIS or anything that could be doing this. the "half moon" icon in my taskbar is yellow for about 3/4 of the way. i can get into sqllitemanager, and also phpinfo, but not phpmyadmin. everything was working fine when i first installed it; does anyone have any idea what is going on with this thing.

I am having exactly the same problem! Even after downgrading back to WampServer 2.0e, I still get the mysqld.exe file crashing.

I've also removed, reinstalled Wamp with no success.

After downloading the 5.1.30 ZIP from the MySQL, my problem was fixed, so it's probably a minor build that's freaking out here.

Maybe the WampServer developer can try to rebuild 2.0f from MySQL, maybe Sun updated a minor release build or something like that.

Actually I was mistaken, downloading 5.1.30 did not work, mysqld.exe still crashes with me!

Hi,

I've just installed Wamp2 on my new XP laptop and it is giving me the same error with mysqld.exe.

I have disabled System Restore (cause I remember that was problematic with Wamp5), but the problem is all the same. I have McAfee running constantly, but don't know how to disable it. Could McAfee be the problem?

It's a shame that no one is trying to suggest a solution to this problem, because effectively WAMP2 is simply not working!

not true, I've already installed wamp2f w/o any problem on win xp pro, vista premium and ultimate, server 2008 pro, and even on win 7 ultimate as seen here

[jlbn.net]

so make sure to setup elevation in uac, and exceptions in all firewalls, including win firewall and defender, for wamp to work properly

Hi,

could yo please elaborate what you mean by these"so make sure to setup elevation in uac, and exceptions in all firewalls, including win firewall and defender, for wamp to work properly"?

Sorry, I'm not all that tech-savvy and I'm sure many people will have this problem because my XP Pro SP3 installation is pretty fresh (only a few days old) and all my settings are pretty default.

On another note, I almost got my WAMP2 working by going to [dev.mysql.com] and downloading "Without installer (unzip in C:\)" and simply unzipping it into C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.1.30 (after I've deleted its previous contents). After this, when I start the WAMP there is no mysqld.exe error and the WAMP seems to work ok, BUT the new problem is that after I create a new daabase called "foo" and then try to install a Content Management System (CMS) it tells me that it cannot find a database called "foo" , while I can clearly see that database in PhpMyAdmin.

do you find a folder name "foo" in this folder C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.1.30\data?
to setup exception in firewall, check my guide here
[blog.jlbn.net]
and this to setup db

yes, I have the folder "foo" in C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.1.30\data\ and inside that foo folder there is a file called db.opt
But i still can't install my CMS (drupal). It keeps bringing me to the same installation page as if the database is not even there.

So many people have this problem that it should be easy to solve by someone who is knowledgable. It's happening to me also with 2.0f. And I've removed and reinstalled many times. I've deleted the entire directory. I've downloaded 5.1.30 from the MySQL site and installed that over top. I've deleted the data files in Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL. Etc.

Here's where I am now: I've downloaded the MySQL 5.0.51b add-on at the WAMP site. I install 2.0f and let it crash. Then I install 5.0.51b and switch versions in the WAMP control panel. Restart and use 5.0.51b with no trouble.

I ended up loading mysqld.exe from the command prompt with a --flush suffix, so far so good.

Just uninstall it ALL.

Clean out the Registry of any WAMP Entries.

Go with 2.0c since its most stable and works without having to do these patches

2.0c has insecure versions of Apache and PHP.

Hybrid: I don't see a --flush command line option listed in the 5.1.30 manual:

[dev.mysql.com]

arg, I forgot where I found that suffix, but if you do mysqld --verbose --help (and turn your buffer up) you can see it

--flush Flush tables to disk between SQL commands.

I know this let me finish setting up ALP, and I just tested with running mysqld from the command line, seemed to work fine with no crashing... Maybe its a dir issue.. not sure.

Man, thank goodness I am not the only guy in the world who had this problem. I had a bad couple of nights with this thing before I tried to come back to the website and check the forums.
I'm going to try the "2.0c" route B-4 I do anything else. I am just developing as localhost and working my way through the lynda.com tutorials. I just need a WAMP that WORKS !!!

Thanks, really.
Is one of these guides listed above ( can you please indicate it by name or link) directly relating to the firewall with windows defender problem ( I am guessing that is where the problem is based on the threads of this discussion ) that causes the message "mysql.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" -- while trying to install and run WAMP ?
I am very, very interested in trying to work this out.
Of the guides that you kindly provided links to above-- is there one that explains how to work around or correct this problem with the installation.
Is it the "Free guide to WAMP", or is it another one that addresses this issue ?

I just clicked on the "Free guide to WAMP" link and didn't see any mention of how to correct this problem -- is there somewhere else where you DO explain how to correct this in your links that are posted or elsewhere that you know of ?
kind regards, mark_p
