Just to expand on that - Skype is sometimes configured to run on Port 80, the same port that Apache uses for http requests. You can configure Skype to not use that port - I don't recall the exact way to do so, but you can search this forum for specifics.

If not Skype, are you using IIS? If so (or if you're not sure) try running this from the command line:

NET STOP w3svc

That will stop IIS if it's running already, or give you a message that it wasn't running in the first place.

If neither of those work then open a command prompt and type "c:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.8\bin\httpd.exe -t" It should respond with "Syntax OK" If not, there is something wrong with your Apache conf files. Next type "c:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.8\bin\httpd.exe" - if Apache can't start it will report the reason. If the reason is something like "could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:xxx" then run "netstat -a -b -o > c:\windows\temp\netstat.txt". When the command completes open c:\windows\temp\netstat.txt with a text editor and search for the number after the colon from the previous Apache error message (0.0.0.0angry smileyXX). If you find it, the process listed is already using that port. You'll have to stop the process or service, or reconfigure it to use another port (or configure WAMP's Apache to use a different port.)

Just installed latest version of WAMP in a W7 environment.

IIS is off, Skype is not using port 80, when I run c:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.17\bin\httpd.exe -t I get syntax ok message, but nothing on the browser screen. The logo in the tray is green.

when I run the above command without the "-t", I get the following message.

(OS 10048) Only one useage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. :make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockes available, shutting down. Unable to open logs.

I see I am not the only one with this issue. I have tried most everything on this forum for this issue. It is possible that I did not try them all as I may not have found them all.

I really do need to get this solved. All suggestions will be tried.

Steve, if all is okay, how come all I get is a blank screen?

If the icon is green why am I getting the message noted above with the httpd.exe as noted in previous post?

Maybe llocalhost is not configured .

Fall back to using 127.0.0.1

Or it could be a firewall allowing it to start but giving it no access to communicate

No cigar there either.

I suspect something in the local workstation settings, but have been fighting this problem for more than a year.
