how to set up hosting?

Hey, I'm starting a web project with my friend in australia, i'm in the US. I want to be able to make my computer into a webserver so that he can go to my IP and see my website, I also want to have FTP and MYSQL connection since i'm leaving town for a few months and I still need to work on this.

Any ideas on how this can be done? I know most of it deals with security things but I can't seem to get them working.

I've never heard a router does not let you have settings on port 80, except your ISP; anyway, change to port 81 or 8080 in file httpd.conf and use domain:port or wan_ip:port to access your websites
