wrong localhost link

When i leftclick the WAMP icon in the system tray and try the upper most button "Localhost" it takes me to w ww.localhost.se (swedish computer). And when I type in by hand h ttp://localhost it dosent work. Though it works when i typ in 127.0.0.1!

Why is this? Why is Localhost not working while 127.0.0.1 do.

I've never tried any language other than English, so I wonder if you changed language to Swedish. If not, clean your browser cache and cookies and try again

Thanks for answering. But no that didnt help... sad smiley

Still having problems with pressing the WAMPSERVER shortcut down in the System Tray and then pressing "Localhost".
When doing this it opens a new Tab in my Firefox browser (yes this is still correct!?)

Though Firefox seem to directly add the " www." and ".com" in beginning and end and that doesn't work of course. And when entering only "h ttp://localhost" the browser starts searching for "www. localhost .com" and after a while "The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

still have to manually enter 127.0.0.1 all the time.

Thanks for any help!

If you try different browser, you might not see that error; this is caused by some extension, so you might take out 1 by 1 to find out which 1 causes it

Changed browser to Internet Explorer and same problem with localhost not working. Though IE don't add www. and .com to the address.

Do you mean Firefox extensions or WAMP (Apache) extensions?

Quick question: if Apache extensions? Do I need to restart the server/service between each disable?

yes localhost is not in ur hosts file. thats why ur browser then checks the most obvious .com site

open hosts file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

make sure u have a line

127.0.0.1 localhost

and make sure there is not

::1 localhost

also in the wamp folder , wampmanager.ini

Type: item; Caption: "Localhost"; Action: run; FileName: "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe"; Parameters: "[localhost];; Glyph: 5

this line is the code for the shortcut. edit it as you like - u cud always put ht tp://127.0.01 if you cant get it working

Ok, now the problem are solved.

I didnt find any info what was wrong with hosts file. So I changed wampserver settings to 127.0.0.1 to reflect the working state.

In host file I had a line 127.0.0.1 Localhost so that should have worked.

But the line below I had ::1 localhost wich did the localhost not working correcly. Dont know what program that have changed the hosts file that way. But maybe it was Spybot Search and Destroy had entered about 1000 lines worth of "127.0.0.1 ww w.spywaresites .com" in lines below.
