127.0.0.1 works but localhost does not

I just installed Wampserver, and everything seems to be running if I point my browser to [127.0.0.1]. However, if I go to [localhost] I get a "page cannot be displayed" error. Any ideas?

goto C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc


open the file 'hosts' in notepad


and make a like this if there is not one


127.0.0.1 localhost


or delete

::1 localhost

if you see it

Ah...it was the "::1 localhost" and I should have spotted it.

Hi Steve

I was facing the same problem. But 127.0.0.1 localhost was already present in hosts file.

Earlier i had IIS server mapped to localhost, but i stopped its services.

Please help me out !!

After stop IIS, clear your browser cache, restart computer and try again
