Downloaded wampserve

Everything went well and worked
ok
Could access phpmyadmin ok

Then I decided to give root a password which I
did through the privlages tab in the phpmyadmin screen

After changing roots passwords and attempting to open
phpmyadmin I am greeted with an error message

access denied for user root@localhost with password NO

have tried to find a config file for phpmyadmin where I maybe able to update the password

I even tried uninstalling wampserver and deleting the wamp folder then installing wampserver again
a clean install would do the trick but to no avail still get the same error and no access

Any ideas?
