Port Forwarding

hi,

when i access my router for port forwarding and it prompts me for my "Private IP" is that my "192.168.0.100" or is that the one i get from whatismyip.com?

i knwo its a dumb question but please help ive been at this for days...

Hi,

Yes, that is a private or internal IP address inside your LAN. It is one of private addresses because the router has its own internal IP address, and if you have more than one workstation, each needs to have its own unique private address in the same subnet as the router, for example in the subnet 192.168.0.0.

The router manual will tell you the default value for the private IP address of the router. One of the router admin screens should also tell you what it is.

On your workstation you can run the command ipconfig /all to see the private IP address of that workstation.

The address you get from whatismyip.com is your public or external IP address.
