Initial problems...

Hi,

We have just installed Wampserver2 on a machine running Windows XP home with SP2, and at the moment we cannot get the "localhost" to respond. Clicking the "Localhost" link on the Wampserver2 menu opens a Firefox window that says "Waiting for localhost...", but nothing then happens. The install created a folder at C:\wamp\www which contains a file called index.php. We have created a file called test.html in the www folder which when clicked directly opens as a Firefox window. Browsing for [localhost] also opens a Firefox window that then does nothing. Using the command prompt I have established that localhost resolves OK to 127.0.0.1 (ie, the command "ping localhost" produces "Reply from 127.0.0.1"winking smiley, but even using [127.0.0.1] also produces the inactive Firefox window. The installation is clean in the sense that I have not changed any settings, configurations or anything. I suspect that the answer is very simple, but can anyone tell me what it is?

Many thanks,

Nigel.

Do you have anything in this list: IIS, Skype, NOD32, Eset, Internet Optimizer, Google Accelerator, so on?

Hi,

IIS - no, as far as I know XP Home doesn't have it.
Skype - no
NOD32 and Eset - no, we use Norton Internet Security
The rest - not as far as I am aware, but having researched Internet Optimizer should we be installing Windows Defender?

Thanks,

Nigel.

Did you try to run on different browsers? What is the color of your wamp tray icon? If it's red or yellow, post the last 10 lines of your apache and mysql log here

Hi,

Tray icon is white, either online or offline. It goes yellow while changing from offline to online and then goes white again.

If you need the log entries, is it the error log you need or a different log?

Thanks,

Nigel.

If it''s white, you don't need to post error log here, but you didn't answer question if you tried on different browser yet?

Hi,

We changed the default browser to IE7 and got the same result trying to access the test page using both localhost/test.html and 127.0.0.1/test.html, ie the browser window opened and eventually said it was unable to connect. Interestingly, even though the default browser had been changed to IE7, clicking the localhost menu item in the wampserver menu still opened a Firefox window and it still did nothing.

Thanks,

Nigel.

Hi,

No we haven't changed anything from the original install. I tried clicking the "test port 80" link, which opened a black command-line window with a flashing cursor but no response. Is this any help?

Thanks,

Nigel.

Hi, I've installed WAMP2 and I had similar problem like OP. I had NOD32 running, also IIS. I turned off IIS, then NOD too. Is there any way how to keep NOD running and still be able to use WAMP/Apache? I've tried to make exceptions for IMON, but apparently not the right files.

Thx for any help.
