Hey all,

Great Forum - I must say first.

I have installed WAMP a few times now and just trying to get something to come up right. The icon is white and bar far right. I have Vista Home Edition computer laptop. Going to install a few sites into here to work via localhost rather than internet since my speed here is much slower than high speed a this moment.

I can left click on icon and go to localhost and firefox comes up, as though it is searching and going to the localhost page but nothing ever comes up. No other server software is running that I know of and Skype is off.

Can ANYONE please help me with this? I have followed a guide someone put on here but got to step 14 and couldn't get beyond that because of this issue.

change skype to not use port 80

there is a tik box in the options..

Thank You for your help in this manner. That didn't fix it still but I change skype to port 8080 for incoming and unchecked the box as well.

Still nothing is changing - still just searching but never pulling up the page I saw on JLBN's site

something is affecting port 80.......

this is wat happends


but ur last line is

which means it was runnign just now with out shutting down,


retsart wamp(maybe even pc) make sure icon is white
goto [localhost] in the broswer



see if u get the wamp page




if not we will try to change apache to run ona different port

and did that and still just looking for localhost. Not sure why this isn't working right. Hope I am not the cause of it.

Anyway - back and ready for step 2 - please...

open the file

httpd.conf



change the line

Listen 80

to

Listen 8080


and change


ServerName localhost:80

to


ServerName localhost:8080


then restart wamp

Ok did this - It does finally search and stop with DONE at the bottom fast - but with a blank white page. Same goes for myphpadmin as well.

Is this correct?

I just assumed since we changed that conf file - that localhost would just be routed over to 8080 automatically, but then again I am not to smart with this stuff.

I did go just now to localhost:8080 and it just kept searching just as it was before. I sure hope you have a next step, lol...

Probably right on that one - as I just checked - localhost and of course it did the same thing, just stopped and nothing in source code.

Then I checked localhost:8080 - as it was loading - but nothing ever coming up - it gave this html stuff...

Now that was weird... When I did that - it came up and stated that there wasn't a php error log, would I like to create a new one.

have u ever installed php before on this computer?

I have tried a few other server softwares, but wasn't really sure what I was doing. Neither of them would work - I assumed because of VISTA - but wasn't sure... last night I went to try XAMPP and just wasn't happy with all you had to do to get it to work, rather than just start WAMP which seems much simpler.

you tell me what to do and I will do it - 100% please.

i dunno you nust have another copy of php somewhere on ur computer...


the only flder u should have is wamp and everything inside it..


so check these

if they exist delete them

c:/php

c:/windows/php

c/programfiles/apache of any name .ie apachesoftware

c:/xampp or c://programfiles/xammp

or any other server u installed




or search for php.exe

yu should only find noe copy in C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.2.5

ok did a full search for any php at all - went through alot of files... Killed Xampp files, JSAS files as well - best I could tell.

Then did a search for php.exe - came up with only 3 and those are all with Wamp server.

Restarted Wamp and still the same thing is happening. I will keep looking until I hear from you on the next posting to see whatelse I can find that might be causeing this.

Please give me more hints as well. I know this has to be something very very simple.

The icon is still white and bar far right as well. There has got to be something simple holding this back. This can't be this hard.

I couldn't find anything else on Xampp or JSAS at all even after doing direct searches as well.

Waiting to see what you have for a next move to be honest.
