Cannot open phpMyAdmin

I have spent sometime trying to get this to work but with no success so far.

I have downloaded Wamp Server 2.0 onto my computer and installed it using all of the default settings.

Having problems getting phpMyAdmin to work I searched this forum and did the following:

1) in the my.ini file I have change the default storage engine to MyISAM

2) I followed the instruction given in the Setup Password guide (http://guides.jlbn.net/ ) and made the changes to the config.inc file (I only followed the instructions from step 6 forward as I can’t get the phpMyAdmin page to load).

3) I use Norton Internet Security and opened ports 80 and 3306 in the firewall options settings.

4) I turned off Skype (as it uses port 80)

I looked for more leads but could not find anything else that may require changing.

When I open phpMyAdmin I get the am prompt to log in:

Username = root
Password = (the password that I have typed in the config.inc file)

I then get the following message:

#2013 - Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 0

In the MySQL log file I get the following:

080210 22:24:54 [Note] wampmysqld: ready for connections.
Version: '5.0.45-community-nt' socket: '' port: 3306 MySQL Community Edition (GPL)

In the PHP error log I get the following:

[10-Feb-2008 22:24:54] PHP Warning: Module 'mysql' already loaded in Unknown on line 0

Any suggestions to what I can try to solve this problem?

Before setting up password, you have to make sure that your mysql working first, so check Setup Wamp guide on my personal websites, especially the screen shots to see if you're missing any step

Many thanks for your reply.

According to the WAMP tray icon I have both services running.

I followed your Setup Guide (which I found very helpful) and have no problems up to step No.15.

I get the screen as shown in your guide (step 15) but when trying to open phpMyAdmin I get the error as explained earlier.

I followed the instruction in the Setup Password Guide but only from step 6 as I could not set a password using phpMyadmin.

Is there anything else I could try?

you need to let wampmysqld-nt as a port in the firewall

iv showed this before

open up control panel- windows firewall

press the exceptions tab

click ADD PORT

NAME = wampmysqld-nt
PORT = 3306
CHECK THE TCP BOX AND PRESS OK

then restart pc

Steve,

Thanks for your help.

My windows firewall is actually disabled as I am using Norton Internet security.

I configured my Norton firewall and gave permission for mysqld-nt to connect to the internet (after reading about it in one of the threads in this forum.)

I also added port 3306 to the firewall list (although there is no option to choose TCP or UDP with the Norton Firewall)

I searched for the file you mentioned (wampmysqld-nt) in my Wamp folder but could not find a file with this name can you please point out where I should find it?

The same problem arises even if I disable the firewall altogether.

I wonder if the following warning In the PHP error log is pointing to a possible reason? I am not sure how to interpret it.

[10-Feb-2008 22:24:54] PHP Warning: Module 'mysql' already loaded in Unknown on line 0

Any more thoughts?

Thanks.
