I just can't seem to get mysql working. I'm on windows xp. I've opened up the proper ports, tried reinstalling but i can't get it to start up. When i try to start it via mysqladmin.exe i get an error: can't connect to mysql server on 'localhost' (10061).

Heres an screenshot of the error i get when trying to access phpmyadmin.

My little icon at the bottom-right is also yellow. I think its supposed to be black.

Any help would be appreciated.

your windows firewall is blocking mysql from running

you will need to exempt it

if u open ur mysql logfile u will see mysql starting and then ending wih in 30secs

open up control panel
firewalls
and then the tab exceptions

and allow mysql-nt.exe

or if u havent restarted your computer? restart it and mysql may try to run itself-windows will see this and give you the option to allow the service

Thanks for the reply. But that wasn't my problem.

My log file said this:
080111 4:21:58 [ERROR] Default storage engine (InnoDcool smiley is not available
080111 4:21:58 [ERROR] Aborting

080111 4:21:58 [Note] wampmysqld: Shutdown complete

I fixed it by changing the default storage engine to MYISAM in the my.ini file.
