WampServer

When trying to load phpMyAdmin, I get this error:

Checked php.ini - both php_mysql.dll and php_mysqli.dll are UNcommented.

Checked the config.inc.php for phpMyAdmin - it shows the correct path to the extensions:
C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.2.5\ext

The PATH variable also includes this path to the extensions. In fact, the other extensions seem to load without a problem.

Apache - OK
PHP - OK
mySQL - can't access directly, what is the default 'root@localhost' password?

What else is causing this to happen?

There was another mySQL instance running! Stopping the other instance now allows the WAMP supplied mySQL server to function.
