make sure your php files end with a .php extension, not .html or they wont get parsed by apache. make sure you do not try to open the files directory with your web browser, use [localhost]

PHP is not supposed to be a service, php is integrated with Apache so as long as the Apache service (httpd.exe) is running then your php should be working. Make sure that if you reinstall WAMP5 that you delete everything out of the wamp5 directory (in your c: drive) that way none of the old configuration settings are being used for your new installation.

I had a same problem..

Turn off the "hide extensions in known file types" setting in windows explorer, and you will see the bad extension in your .php file. For example if you using notepad the file name may yourfile.php.txt
