Make sure you enable port 80 in both firewall and router

At this point its best to uninstall and then reinstall the wamp server. First you should save the config that worked for you before and make sure you copy your sites folder all to the desktop or someplace outside the WAMP folder.

I've got the same problem and have used my IP address and my routers address neither worked.
I am also using Cox communication's service. Wonder if its a problem on their end. I'll look into this.

Hmmm.... a signature....

You might be interested to check the backup section on my site

BTW, if you guys wonder your isp might block port 80, email me so I can send you guys a testing setup to try out; I don't want to post it here since it's not a good configuration for everybody to follow.

Okay

I don't know what I'm missing but i followed jlbn to the "T" this time and it is still not working

i get a 403 when i try and type in my IP in my browser, and if a friend at home tries he gets a time out.

i uninstalled and reinstalled (cleared with regedit after uninstall) and every is again starting

please tell me what I'm missing the log file show denied by sever config however do not see why or where.

I need this set up like a normal web sever and i have read both write up about 20 times.

Goal:
set this up and access it with IP address to make sure it works

then change need configs and point the domain at it to host my own site

It seems as if the write ups are missing steps or I'm retarded (I'm probably retarded)

please help in figure this out i don't want to pay $100/year for hosting services anymore

i figure it out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to set the IP in the virtual sever file to the computers IP and had to set the directory permissions to allow all

also had to change it to port 81, i think COX blocks 80

He he... he he... ;-)

Depends on router manufacture, there are 2 types to enable port forward

1. Show as Port Forward:

2. Show as Virtual Server:

yes. now right now i have to x.x.x.x:81 to get to the web page

i think i'm going to port map the router to public port 81 to private port 80 (this way no changes in the sever

But how does this affect when i point my domain over to it? how will peoples computer know to use port 81?

also i didn't see it on your site but since this is a WWW server is there any ohter thing i should do to help stop hackers and things?

I've never actually tried this, but I'm afraid that people have to actually include port 81 in the link in order to get to your page, even when using domain; for example:

It's not very convenient though, so I suggest that you should convince your isp to open port 80 for you, but remember NEVER mention about web server or wamp or Apache, so on, or you can go for another option is to sign up for some host that reroutes the domain for you so people don't have to include that port in url

There is a lot of options and different people might have different ways to secure their server; for example, I have ssl, mod_security, mod_private, double authentication for email and ftp, so on, but some people might say that "sh*t, I dont need those craps, but my server is way more secure than yours...", so I can't say that my idea is better than yours, he he... he he... ;-)
