security questions

I am thinking of installing wamp5 on an xp machine in order to provide an environment with which i can learn web development. i have no intention of using it as a "production" server, simply as a way to experiment on my own machine.
i have two questions:

1) should i have any security concerns if i have no intention of opeing up my work to the internet. In other words, does just the act of installing this software have a negative impact on my security.

2) are there any steps i should take to ensure that the program is not exposing me to risk? if so, what are they?

thank you in advance for any help

Since you use it locally, you don't have anything to worry about. Anyway, you might be interested to check out my site on section "Virtual Host for Local" for the idea
