I installed Wamp5 on my pc in a home network. All services run fine. When typing 127.0.0.1 in the browser (IE), it shows the familiar Wamp-screen. But when typing my external IP (80.126.etc...) in the browser, it comes up with a message box asking for a username and password. I tried all options like "root" and "root@localhost" plus the password I created for the root admin, but it keeps ending with a "401 Unauthorised" error message instead of the Wamp-screen.
I disabled both firewalls on my pc. In the internet router in our home network I opened port 80. I also added a new user with only a few privileges, using PHPMyAdmin and tried to login with that account. But no luck.
Thanks for this. I wasn't able to solver the problem. So I decided to upgrade to the latest Wamp version. Now at least I can see the " Put online" option, which is quite handy I must say. Thanks for the hint! I finally found out that the password I was asked for, appeared to be my router's password. I can't connect to my website by using the domainname or external IP-address for my router prevents me from doing this for safety reasons :-((
[Edit] I moved the part that used to be here to a new topic. [/Edit]
portforward.com is a good site, but you'd better do it manually. Check this threat, in which I've helped a wamp user to solve the problem after he used portforward.com
Adding a line with the webserver's IP address and domainname to the hosts file in Windows solved my problem of not being able to reach the website from within the LAN by using the external IP address.
Some routers really need this setting, because they lack a "loopback" feature like my Etech router.
