WampServer

Greetings all, this is probably a stupidly simple question. I have used previous wamp and lamp versions as a local dev server, i've recently taken the plunge of using Windows Vista. In setting up my server i find if i give the root account of mySQL a password that i cant log into mySQL and all access is denied to me. I know i'm missing something, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also as a suggestion - in the FAQ there should be a walkthrough on how to set up your server after instalation.
