starting with php version 5.0, php came with mysql extension disabled by default. the current version of wamp comes with php version 5.2.0, however, wamp comes with the mysql extension enabled.
have you edited your php.ini file at all? do you have any other versions apache other then wamp's apache installed?
dont worry though,you can use the wamp tray icon menu to enable the mysql extension. start wamp, then left click on the wamp tray icon.
PHP Settings -> PHP Extensions -> php_mysql
make sure there is a triangle next to php_mysql. if there is not one, then click on php_mysql and wamp will enable the extension and then restart apache so the new setting can take effect.
