Does anyone know how to add a NNTP news server ?
Or will I need to go for the full apache server?

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for the reply yfastud, but I have been "googling" for the past 2 days.

Your links: The first link is for a news Reader

The second is quite a good explanation - which I have seen before, but is way out of date. The links to the netmanage site are old. Netmanage do not do that product anymore.
So I am still stuck!

What I am really after is a NNTP News Server.

The reason why is that my hosting provider has blocked all ports particularly 119 (NNTP).
I run a VBulletin forum, where I have the facility to "import" NNTP newsgroups (nothing bad, just some genealogy newslists) into it as threads on the forum, for my members to read and respond to by replying. But as the ports are blocked - no go!

So I have the idea, that running Wampserver (which is mainly for my development work), thought that adding a NNTP News Server would be great.
I could run a local copy of VBulletin, then copy the mysql tables into the live forum!

Unless you may know of a better way?
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for those yfastud,

Still don't quite help me.
The vbulletin link is the one I am using, except a newer version.

I am really a newb when it comes to apache - just want a news server!

Thanx,
Dave

Thanks yfastud.

I have another problem. Many of the scripts I have don't seem to run on PHP 5 so I have downloaded your PHP 4. It all shows ok in the taskbar - wampserver. Switch to PHP 4. DOS box opens, looks like some problems, but cannot see what they are, as DOS box closes!

Anyway, I confirm PHP4 is running, but when either using IE, FireFox, or Opera, windows reports:
Apache HTTP Server has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Report to Microsoft.....

When I switch back to PHP5 no problem!

Can you advise yfastud

Thanks,
Dave

he... he... ;-) good guess but you're wrong, I don't get paid from this site at all, but just try to help people that suffer like me when beginning to build own server. As you can see most of my own experiences are actually gathered from some other sites.
