Thank for reply,
I've read your post .
And I knew that there are many FTP server software and FTP client used for a webserver,
such as Serv-U , GuildFTPd , FileZilla ...
(search on Google as your post in [forum.wampserver.com]:
...
4. FTP server Google for free applications, test each, then pick the one you like most.)
....
but I like most to run Apache FTP server on my computer: WINXP +WAMP5. Can I do it ?
Best regards.

P/S : My computer almost run 24/7 with ADSL (of course, except when I am too sleepy )

Firstly, wampserver doesn't come w/ ftp server, so you're on your own.

Secondly, for your question, theory is yes, but one minute after your ftp server is up, spybot from hackers would try to get in your system, so if you think that you could write the code good enough to prevent that, have fun.

I myself use 3-party app as you listed since it's way more secure and more features, of course less fun because don't have a chance to practice coding.

Good luck.

you cannot get a domain for free, you will have to buy it. There are some places that will allow you to use a subdomain like your.theresite.com.

[freedns.afraid.org]

do not setup your own email server, it will be extremely insecure and discovered by spam-bots in no time and they will be able to send millions of emails from your insecure server. there is a better and more secure way that you can use to use email without haveing to instal your own email server which is way more secure.

[phpmailer.sourceforge.net]

Hi So for a Domain name I need to buy one?? I am starting a company site and I want to make a free domain name and host it myself I don't fully like having another company to have control over my domain or any part of my server and hosting services I want to offer.

If I download that e-mail thing you suggested could I give a service to multiple people??

I read some tutorials on having your own free domain name by hosting it yourself I read it and understood it but It didn't talk about how to setup the name server or dns server to setup the router for usage.

but I want to know how I can use wamp5 to be able to host my websites with their own domain name for free, if it's possible.

when you register a domain name you do not actually get to own the domain, you are basically leasing it from your domain name registrar. there are no free domain names out there you are going to have to pay for it. you know nothing about the domain industry, and nothing about the web hosting industry, so the last thing you should be doing is running a web server. get web hosting. you can get hosting for less than $5 a month now days.

Well I already have 2 websites that's hosted for free by a company but I can only have a subdomain which I don't like, and I Know about the hosting services out their and I know about domain services out their, but I seen some people that have their own domain name for free and are hosting it on their own servers on xp pro, but they wont explain it they just told me to pay someone to Do that for me. I really don't have money to spend on a hosthing service for my Domains, and I do know that their are way's you can host your own domain, but I don't know the full details.

and I don't like having someone to have full control over mywebsites ect.
that free hosting services that I have my 2 websites on are required to have popup add's which I have no control over and some popup ad's been giving my traffic some viruses and other ulgy thing's I reported it to my hosting services and they done nothing, and every month by month I lost more and more traffic since the word spread my sites gives viruses, and some ad's had adult content on them which I never agreed to have displayed, on the fourms of my hosting service company I hd hosting my sites some people bought domains for $26 a month and has the same stuff that I have been going threw.

So I got fed up and decided to try running my own server, but I want it like commerical looking like having it's own domain name and other stuff what professionals use.

I only know basic stuff about hosting services and Domain names, ect I know the proccess on how from the internet a person to go on my site with request's to the domain nam server ect.

SO that's why I am on here asking people who know's everyaspect of a server or at least has their own server up and running.

Most people must agree that you would not like to have someone having control on your website ect like the hosting services they have control on your websites, for example if they found a website on their server not obeying the rules and by mustake they blocked or shutdown your account and your webpages are not online anymore
and you depend on the website for income , what could you do? nothing
even though it was a mistake they blocked the wrong account.

I have that happened to my aol account but I really don't like bing controlled like that.
I am having my server to serve a online games and a webpage with info of what I do ect
and a e-mail service.

I plan on later on learning php and or maybe asp so I can then can take control of spam, bot's, hackers ect.

Thanks for your time.

Firstly, as already mentioned, wampserver is for developers, not for production.

Secondly, even though you can host your own domain on your server, like I do, with wampserver, but when talking about business, it's worst than running it through the hosting services because of your connection speed, your personal admin skill, so on.

For examples, my computer is Intel Pentium D 840 (Dual Core 3.2GHz) with 4GB DDR2 533 and 500GB SATA (250 x 2), but it still slow when too many of my friends are working at the same time. As you can see below, I'm having most of basic things, but they're just for testing and not in wide use:

[jlbn.com]
[test.jlbn.com]
[forum.jlbn.com]
[mail.jlbn.com]
[ftp.jlbn.com]

And here is my computer:

Have fun

Lets call it the big internet fraud.

As soon as you try to step into business
there are already the crowd of inhonest
business offers out there. They all say
they are great and cheap and will give
you anything. Thats their marketing theory.
The practice you will see only afterwards.

There are more or less well known storys
out there - and if you select "free" then
be aware there is a hidden "feature" inside.
A rule of thumb, that bigger and fancier their ads,
the more critical the offer might be.

* Some hosters say: either pay, or take our pop up ads.
* Others do silently shrink down the virtual bandwidth
of your site when reaching a specific transfer limit.
Some others place hidden fees for moving your
registered domain to somewhere else and revoke any transfers until its paid.
* Some ISPs and similar are reluctant of officially receiving
your written contract cancellation (or shift their activity one mont more)
and later on call you for a "bonus program" if you pull back the cancel.
* Any such service might go bankrupt anytime,
so if there are signs that e.g. they are using old or instable hardware,
getting in trouble with other companys for interconnection traffic
and so on, then you might be in need of action quick for a move.
* You might expect cases where those service provides do act
in ways it does not make sens, like a friend of mine suddenly
found out that a server move he ordered to a more professional
account resulted in a total loss of e-mail accounts and mails
on those servers - no one warned him about at those big webspace provider.
Needless to say that those big fish did no backups for the transaction either.

Another rule of thumb:
Good service has its price, but it must not be that much.
A well organized company has an optimized cost-effective server park,
wont spent lots of costly service hours on their system
because they do run without flaws and
are installed/updated mostly automated.
You only need few service calls because most is to your hands,
just authenticated remote access to the service web pages is needed.

A friend of mine was hinted for hosteurope
and he is fine with them for a few months now.
His point of choice was the scalability they offer.
(Move the filesystem and runtime system image to the
powerclass of server you need in 1-2 seconds downtime,
virtual-shared, single-cpu, big cluster system...)
Other reliable service providers surely do exist.

Setting up your own web server at your location
will urge you to keep the internet connection up
and running 24/7 (and not all internet providers do drop
you a note before they do maintaince for a while).
In contrast remote hosting services are highly
redundant and broad band for their internet connection.

Setting up at home urges you to permanently
spent hours a month for keeping up the virus protection.
Further bug fix and feature patch selection, pre-testing,
application etc will need your understanding and time.
I've seen people doing that and thus beeing in need
of having a second high power machine always in stock
for any needs of sudden replacement, once again 24/7.
They needed advanced skills in router technics, firewalling,
log checking and even time for active defence measures
for keeping the hackers out of their systems.

If you want good services and have a semi-critical business,
then spend those 5 to 20 Euro a month for a good hoster
that loads off your valueable time from general adminstration.
Think, if you only spend 5 minutes a day, times 30 days a month
(including saturdays and sundays) for your log checking, then
you are already at some 150 minutes or 2,5 hours of time spent.
Then you will have a hardware malfunction any 6-12 months
with a sumarized downtime of some 3-8 days and some 20
extra working hours for error detection, parts ordering,
remounting the box and another system bring up...
This immedeatley exceeds the cost for professional hosting services.

Either you want to do your business, then host elsewhere
and make good money with your time by serving your customers,
or you want to get educated in web server adminstration,
then host yourselves and spend your time and money on it whilst not serving customers.

BTW - it really rarely works serving any customers when you
dont have or down want to spent sufficient money.
Not having much money should hopefully never hinder you
from selecting the most cost efficient option for doing the job.
Rather in contrast a limited funds should much encourage you
for selecting exactly those most cost efficient option.

Only people that spent a bit time to calc their alternatives
and writing down the goods and risks of each solution
at least once can be much more sure they did the right thing.
