Apache apparently not installed

Hi everyone,
I have attempted to install this software as I want to play around with Joomla. I have noticed that the server says offline. I checked the FAQ's and found that two services should be installed. I see that the apache service does not exist at all. I have attempted to reinstall, uninstall, reboot etc to no avail. I am on a Windows XP SP2 machine. I have checked Windows firewall and enabled Apache ( folder exists and I even tried running apache server monitor which confirms that the service is not installed). Any ideas? Thanks.
