Problem with polish characters while reading from MySQL

Hi,
I have installed WAMP on my laptop while working on one web project. The problem is, that in some records in MySQL database there are polish names and titles of papers that include polish characters. This characters are recognized by MySQL and displayed properly in phpmyAdmin.
Problem occurs while the script I wrote tries to read data from database using extension mysqli. Instead of polish characters it returns "?".
What makes me creazy - when I ran this script at unix platform (where it is going to be download when I finish the project) every polish chracter was returned properly!
Problems with settings?...
