Browser has slowed down

I have just installed WAMP5 to help me with some PHP development and am very impressed.
During installation I was asked if I wanted to start WAMP automatically which I did and it also detected Firefox and asked if I wanted to use that as my default browser. I am now finding that all sites are now loading quite slowly into Firefox. Is this because I asked WAMP5 to always be running as a service? Would I be better setting it to manual and starting it manually when I am actually doing some developing?
