Been a long time since I used wamp,I know it has/used to be run from root of the drive.
My install ran/runs from C: and is kinda portable in that if I place my saved wamp folder on a new builds C: it should work once services installed/setup etc

Can I change my saved install to another drive letter?
It's an old version of wamp and tweaked to my situation that you guys did for me(many thanks)

If I can have wamp on the removable HDD will wamp work if the HDD is removed then re-added later?
So,pc and wamp running fine,website/db's running fine,I stop services,exit wamp,remove HDD.
Do whatever needs to be done on the HDD,replug HDD,start wamp.........

Thanks

Hi,

Wampserver can be installed on any partition or disk (Only NTFS), for example :

E:\wamp64 or J:\wamp64 or D:\com\wamp64

It is preferable that the installation path does not contain spaces or diacritical characters

It can be a removable disk, but it is imperative that this disk has the same drive letter when plugged in, it is also imperative to quit Wampserver before unplugging the disk, so that the services are stopped.
Wampserver is not portable.

I just tried again with a Toshiba DTB330 1TB USB removable drive

No.
Backups can be made to another drive with a different drive letter but it will only work if you restore the backup to the same drive letter and with exactly the same path.

What version ?

Local sites, as VirtualHost, have no obligation to be in wamp64/www/mysites, they can be almost anywhere, even on another partition or another disk.
Also for databases, it is quite possible to have the data folder somewhere else than in the wamp64 tree.
As far as I am concerned, wamp is installed in E:\wamp64\, my local sites are in G:\www\ and my databases are in G:\wwwbases\

my wamp is 2.2,php5 and php4 running in there, usually runs from C:/wamp

I'm running xampp from my I: drive but want to swap it back with my wamp instal.

Problem is is that if I remove the HDD,wait, replug HDD then xampp and databases don't
receive/transmit data to/from the internet.
seems to work 'locally' but no internet.
if I stop their services and program, delete the apache and mysqld firewall rules, then start xampp/services again,it is all working fine.
I know wamp and xampp are similar so dont wwant this issue to happen with wamp,or understand why this issue occurs?

Hi,

Re-connecting the disk containing Wamp will not restart the services like a magic wand.
I repeat:
- Before unplugging the disk, it is imperative to quit Wamp so that the services are stopped correctly and that the caches (MySQL, Apache, MariaDB, etc.) are also emptied correctly.
- After having reconnected the disk, it must take the same drive letter and Wamp must be launched so that the services start correctly.

Too old version. No longer supported.

services are stopped and program/s always exited 1st.
not sure about cache though?
Where how do I empty them and where are they?

Drive letter is fixed, nothing changes except the enable/disable and unplug/replug HDD.
The only thing that works is to delete apache/mysqld firewall rules and remake.

Thanks
