Help with Freetype! :O

I am using a script that loads a font (ttf) and displays some text as a picture.
Unfortunately this does not yet work with wampserver (works fine on others).
As I like this tool very much I am desperately searching for a solution.
I have enabled the gd2 extension for php (removing the semicolon), but this did not help the situation. Any suggestions!
I guess i need to install freetype. But how?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanx in advance!

gd2 is enabled in php by default, so there is nothing you need to do to enable it.

Sorry, dont want to bother anyone. But I got no clue how to install freetype. And I could not yet find appropriate hints via google.
I downloaded the package. Ok but what next? Hundreds of files. Do i have to recompile php? How to do that? What the heck is going on.
